The Australian Slot Car Track Directory

Some write history of Australian Slot Racing.

Pre-70's slot car history from Victoria
In early slot car racing year a man named Bill Denheld, built and owned Tom Thumb Raceway in Box Hill (Vic)
for many years. Tom Thumb was the track where some of your existing listed people started their slotting
careers and it was regarded as a truly unique track. A man named John Gatens raced and for many years the
almost unbeatable driver in the Victorian Slot Car Championships. A guy by the name of Ace (Eric) Elliott
should also be included. Ace was the "old man" (literally) of Victorian Slot Car events.

Jack Couche then known as John for most of the 1970's I was secretary of the Victorian Slot Car Association
and organized all the racing series for the Victorian Championships at such tracks as Tom Thumb, Moonee Raceway,
Quikslot, Trak'n'Hobbies, Powerhouse Raceway and Eastside Raceway. This information is very valuable to
Australian Slot Car Racing History and I would like to say a special thanks to Jack for this.

    some slot history from Queensland
Brisbane had one track that stayed open after the industry collapsed, there was pressure to start up racing again
after a few racers Ray Cartwright and Carl A. and Keith Wade went to a round of the 1976 Nationals in Sydney. In
these days there was three rounds but non in Queensland. This soon kick started racing going again but there was
new faces who just started racing, Perry Vaggelas, Brent Koppen, Greg Nielson and with long standing racers Colin
Bostock, Charlie A, Bob Armitch and Ross Elliot. But two people emerged as the pace setters, Perry Vaggelas and
Keith Wade won every race except two racers at Annerley Hobby Center from 1976 to 1979. Other new track opened
Flashtrax only series Gp12 wing cars Perry won all seven races, Gp20 Keith and Perry where tided and Keith won on count back.

At a Club Track in Southport racing 1/32 F1 cars, Perry finished 2nd in 82,83 and won in 84. Stewart and Ashley had
won many times over the years but Perry is the first outsider to have won their championship. Keith, Perry, Brent
and Greg accounted well at the National rounds in 77/78 and Perry won the Gp12 Am race at the 1977 East Coast
Championship and 3rd in Pro. Keith and Perry are still racing today after a few career restarts, but Queensland
now has a permanent race for the National Championships each year and with many young and famous racers who have
moved to Queensland should make a solid feature for slot car racing. Perry acheived lap records at the new track in
Toowoomba, Flashtrax, Annerleys old and new track, Rockhampton, Oxley, Ipswich both business's, Club Tracks at Ashgrove,
Nunda, Southport, Oxley. With over 300 wins from 1977 to 1997.
A question of over 300 race wins and not one brownie points?
