to Casterton-"Kelpie Country"

Nestled amongst River Red Gums in the valley of the Glenelg River in far Western Victoria, Australia, Casterton is nationally recognised as the birthplace of the Kelpie breed of Australian working dog (see also Warrock Homestead). The townsfolk of 'Kelpie Country' celebrate this birthright each year in June with the Australian Landmark Kelpie Muster (download a current Kelpie Muster accommodation availability guide in Microsoft Word format).

Ideally situated for the traveller -halfway between Melbourne and Adelaide, Casterton falls within the Glenelg Shire boundaries and is centrally located (1 hour or so) to the Portland Coast, Great South West Walk and the Great Ocean Road. The Grampians and the Wimmera are also within easy reach, as is the popular Coonawarra wine region (Limestone Coast).

Casterton offers natural charm and boasts abundant and beautiful flora and fauna, as well as historic interest (Casterton History) with many locals having family ties to the region dating back to the early settlers.
