KIEV, Oct 14, 1999 -- (Agence France Presse) NATO exercises began Wednesday in Odessa, southern Ukraine, where military from 25 countries simulated peace-keeping operations on computer, the Ukrainian ministry of defense said.
Around 100 officers were taking part in these exercises, dubbed "Cooperative Support 99," and organized under NATO's "Partnership for Peace" program.
Among the participating states were the United States, Canada, Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Denmark, Greece, Turkey, Poland, Hungary, Ukraine, Romania, Bulgaria, Lithuania, Moldavia and Georgia.
"Partnership for Peace", launched in 1994, aims to foster military cooperation between NATO members and their former enemies in the Warsaw pact.
