EU Condemns Ongoing Violence in Kosovo

The European Union (EU) Thursday condemned the recent acts of violence against the Serb population in Kosovo.

In a Finnish presidential statement released here today, the EU condemns in particular the incident on 27 October in Pec where a convoy of 155 Serbs was attacked and several people were injured.

The EU also condemned the shooting against the President of the "Kosovo Serbian Resistance Movement" and co-chairman of the Serbian National Council, Momcilo Trajkovic on 31 October in his home in Pristina, as well as the many other attacks against minorities and recent acts of violence.

The shooting in Pristina is to further complicate efforts to bring about political dialogue between Serb and ethnic Albanian political leaders in Kosovo, it added.

The EU expects full compliance from all parties with the U.N. Security Council Resolutions and full cooperation with U.N. interim administration in Kosovo and the KFOR.

"The EU is committed to a democratic and multiethnic Kosovo. All Kosovars must be able to stay in and return to Kosovo, and live there in peace without harassment or intimidation of any kind. This was, is and will be the basis for the EU's strong commitment in Kosovo, the statement said.
