KOSOVSKA MITROVICA - The situation in the Kosovska Mitrovica hospital, since it was taken over by the U.N. civilian mission UNMIK, is deteriorating daily and medical workers believe it was never in worse condition, hospital Deputy Director Milan Ivanovic told Tanjug on Monday.
Ivanovic, who was banned entry in the hospital compound on Nov 3 by U.N. administrator Martin Garrod, said the hospital did not have any water, electricity, heating or medicines.
"There is great obstruction by the KFOR which is trying to cut off any cooperation with Serbia and obstruct Health Ministry aid shipments," Ivanovic said.
The water works, post office and electricity distribution centers are on the southern side of this town in Kosovo and Metohija, and under ethnic Albanian and KFOR control, who very unprofessionally manage these systems, the doctor said.
As the only lung specialist in the district, Ivanovic daily examines patients in the offices of the Serbian National Council, where over 200 patients have been registered so far. A French viral disease specialists was appointed by the UNMIK to fill Ivanovic's place at the hospital.
