Fifth and Final Revision - February 22nd

Umpire: e-mail: Nathan Smith; or phone 04 2366069 after 7:30pm.

No more than 2000 Points may be spent on the army. Armies must follow the restrictions on army selection of their own army book. Only published army lists, either those in Army Books released before March 2002 (Empire, Orcs & Goblins, Dwarfs, Vampire Counts, Dark Elves, and High Elves) or the Warhammer Annual 2002 may be used. Ravening Hordes Lists may be used if your army list does not have an Army Book or has not been updated in the Warhammer Annual 2002. Note: The Skaven Army Book, released in March, may not be used due to time constraints.

Dogs of War armies may be used as published in Warhammer Annual 2002, including all Regiments of Renown. Dogs of War may be used as an army on their own, and other armies may include ONE Dogs of War or Regiment of Renown as a Rare choice per the rules in the Warhammer Annual

All Models MUST be Citadel Miniatures. Lord of the Rings miniatures and conversions may NOT be used.

Weapons, Armour options and upgrades chosen from the army list must be shown on the models themselves. You may use converted Citadel Miniatures to represent troop types that are not yet available in the Citadel range, but may not use Lord of the Rings miniatures in the conversions; This is basically because if Natcon becomes a Rogue Trader Tournament then that is one of the restrictions. So rather than waiting to find out I'm tell you now so if it does you won’t suddenly find yourself unable to use some of your models!

WARM UP PERIOD: Before battle commences there will be a five-minute ‘warm-up’ period. During this period players must first show their opponents all the models in their army that will be deployed during the initial set-up. Players are allowed to ask their opponents questions about the army and the rules that apply to the units and characters in it. After inspecting the army both players should discuss the terrain for the battle, and how each feels it will affect the units in play (ie. how does scenery effect line of sight and movement, and so on). They can also discuss any other rules points that they think may come up in the battle. Finally, both players must shake hands, and then battle can commence. Note that Army Lists do not have to be shown to your opponent until AFTER the battle.

All rules interpretations from the 2002 Warhammer annual will be used.

No Appendix Armies will be allowed.

No Special Characters may be used.

We will be using the Trial Magic Lists from White Dwarf #265. If you do not have a copy of these then please let me know.

Please have all Army Lists to me by February 28th. Late entries will be accepted up till March 20th (The earlier the better)

BATTLES

 The 3 games on Friday will be Pitched Battle.

 The 3 games on Saturday will be Flank Attack.

 The 2 games on Sunday will be capture which will use normal victory conditions plus a 400 point bonus for capturing and holding the objective instead of it’s normal victory conditions.

 Games will be based on the scenario or 2.5 hours.

 Swiss chess will be used.

 All disagreements should be worked out among the 2 competitors roll a d6 if at all possible. If you still can’t work things out I will be at hand to decide and my judgment is of coarse final.

 You must bring 3 pieces of Scenery from the Realms of Men on page 223 of the Warhammer Rulebook. Scenery will be placed as per the rules for the Realms of Men for the first game, which I will check and adjust if necessary. Then my helper elves and I will adjust the tables in the morning before the start of Sat/Sunday mornings. Hopefully no one will have to play on the same table twice.

DECIDING WHO WINS THE TOURNAMENT

The winner of the National Warhammer Tournament will be the player that scores the most total points in the categories described below.
- Generalship Maximum 160 Points
- Sportsmanship Maximum 160 points
- Painting Maximum 60 points
- Composition Maximum 20 points
The points scored in each category will be added to together, and the player with the highest total will be the winner. In the case of a tie the winner will be the player who scored the most points in the Generalship category. If still tied the prize will be awarded to the player who has scored the most Sportsmanship points.

GENERALSHIP (Possible 160 Points)

I have decided to use a simple procedure for working out the tournament points scored for Generalship. What’s more, I’m expecting you (ie. the players) to work out the points for each battle and record them on your results card! The system will work as follows:

- Work out your Victory Points as per the Warhammer Rule book (page 198) but instead of using the 2000point scale we will use the 3000point scale to decide what degree of victory that has been attained. This will include points scored for holding table quarters, killing Generals, capturing standards etc. etc.
- Generalship points are awarded depending on the degree of victory.

DRAW
- Both players score 10 points
MINOR VICTORY
- Winning player scores 13 points
- Losing player scores 7 points
SOLID VICTORY
- Winning players scores 17 points
- Losing player scores 3 points
MASSACRE!
- Winning player scores 20 points
- Losing player scores 0 points
- Note that if a player concedes, the game counts automatically as a Massacre.

SPORTSMANSHIP (Possible 160 Points)

This category has been included to encourage players to take part in the tournament in the right spirit. Obviously we deplore rude or unsportsmanlike behaviour and we hope that the points that can be earned for being a sporting and friendly opponent will discourage players from even thinking of acting in this manner. After each round you’ll be asked to answer two questions about your opponent and their army. Your answers will influence their Sportsmanship and Composition Scores. The first of the 2 questions will be about composition so as to reward the player who carefully constructs an army that conforms to the rules of the Tournament and the spirit of the game, but which also retains its own unique flavour and character. The second of the questions will be about the type of player your opponent is; Did they know the rules and play fairly? or were they a person who you would hope to never play again? You get the picture.

Sportsmanship then will be a possible 160 points; 20 per game, with 2 questions scored out of 10.

PAINTING & APPEARANCE

Army Painting will be rated by a group of 3 Judges. Each judge will judge using the criteria listed briefly below. In a nutshell, a player that brings along an army that is painted, based and imaginative will pick up a lot of points in this category, while one that brings a badly painted and unimaginative army will not!
All armies in the Tournament must be painted (and no, just being undercoated doesn't count!). Judges mark the armies on appearance alone, they don’t judge how ‘beardy’ an army is, you’ll lose on sportsmanship for using a ‘beardy’ army. The Judges will mark solely on the guidelines below with a 0-2 score for each question (giving a total score of 0-6 for each question). We believe that the measure of a person’s army(all subjective opinions aside) is whether or not it is painted, based, and what degree of detail has been added to the overall effect of that army.

ARMY COMPOSITION (Each worth 4 Points. 20 Max)

1. Army List in On Time, Correct and Readable.
2. Army has a Theme Story or Background (or some effort to explain your dodgy army!).
3. Army has more Core Troop choices than Special and Rare combined.
4. More points spent on Core than on Special and Rare combined.
5. Army has 2 or more Core units twice minimum size (Units with a minimum size of 1 do not count ie. Snotling Bases).

PAINTING (Each worth 6 Points. 60 Max)

1. Honest effort made in painting the army.
2. Banners and Standards done to add to the armies overall appearance (They stand out).
3. Characters and Centrepiece’s (Easily visible and obviously important people!).
4. Cohesive Appearance. (Army looks like an army of its type is meant to look like!)
5. Cool Details (Added bits and pieces on bases and models, conversions.. etc )
6. Painting Standard (High Standard 6 points – Low Standard 0 Points)
7. Shields (Add to the overall appearance of the army)
8. Bases (Flocked, Painted, not just plain painted bases)
9. Unit Markings (Magic Items represented, scars, tattoos, etc)
10. Movement trays (A most important thing for tournaments!!)

Bringing the points to:
20 points Max for Composition
60 points Max for Painting
160 points Max for Sportsmanship
160 points Max for Gaming
400 Total
