The United Nations

The United Nations is the primary actor in international law. It is not a 'world government' but it does provide a means for countries to settle disputes and work on treaties between its members.

Before we get started we need to get some terms clear.

Here is what you need to do...................

 

Section 1

1. Open up a new word document.
2. Go to this online dictionary and look for the definitions for the following words:-
        a) multilateral agreement
        b) unilateral agreement
        c) treaty
3. Put these definitions into your word document

Section 2

Type a new heading in your word document 'What is the United Nations?'

Then go to the information section of  the United Nations website. Write a sentence or two for each of the following questions:-

  1. When did the UN begin?
  2. How many countries are in it now?
  3. What is the UN charter?
  4. What does the UN do?
  5. What are the six main sections of the UN? Write a sentence describing the role each one and its role.

 

Section 3

You should now have a decent understanding of how the United Nations operates and its setup you can proceed to use the UN website or google to search for the issue you intend to research for your assignment.
