Trust

If you search the Internet for information on the bible you will find that for every argument against it there is another arguing for it. For example, there are some fragments of the Gospel of St Matthew called the Magdelan fragments. Now when they were originally studied it was concluded that the style of script dated from around 200 AD. But a recent study of them with newer equipment and techniques has revealed that the style of script is in fact one only found from 50 BC to 50 AD. This then means that the Gospel of St Matthew was written at latest in the late mid first century. Or at least that's what you will find on a Christian website. On an atheist's website you will more likely find attacks and dismissal of the recent studies.

For every argument there are experts and learned men on both sides since there is simply no such thing as total agreement in science. But then which experts are we to believe? One has to suspect that Christians accept the recent studies of the Magdelan fragments precisely because they argue for the Gospels, having being written so early, being eye witness accounts. The atheist on the other hand will accept those experts who reject the recent studies since a later dating allows them to maintain their belief that the Gospels are mythology.

But if we want to reach a decision without bias, who are we to trust? And it does come down to trust since we can not study ancient Greek and ancient calligraphy for ourselves. And even if we did we would have to trust that our teachers gave us an unbiased education. Eventually we have to decide to trust someone. Which only leaves us wondering who can we trust more? And on what grounds should be decide to trust someone? This is an extremely important questions since almost all of our life involves trusting someone to some degree. And nothing is more important than the question of religion since to trust the wrong person might lead one to eternal hellfire.

So who then do we trust? Scientists like to portray themselves as being entirely impartial and therefore trustworthy, but I would hope that you are not foolish enough to believe nonsense like that. It is a sad fact of life that the more someone says that they are trustworthy the more reason you have for not trusting them. Salesmen are proof enough of that.

In this world the only people you can trust unquestioningly and with blind faith are those who love you. That is why I always place my trust in God. Since turning to God I have become more loving and certainly more moral and I continue to improve each day. I am never tested beyond my abilities and am given whatever little pieces of wisdom are needed to sustain my faith and help me to grow in love each day. I place my trust in God, I have faith in God, because there is a real, tangible love between us.

So in the case of the Magdelan fragments, I place my trust in those experts who support God. Since even if they do happen to be wrong they are at least closer to Truth by being closer to God than any atheist ever will be.
