William Nicholson's trilogy gets better with each book.  I f  you like fantasy, quest type books, try them- The Wind Singer, Slaves of the Mastery, and Firesong.  They are quite long, so not for the faint hearted.

What did the soccer coach say when Romeo asked what number jersey he should wear?  "Wear 4 out there, Romeo."
