TIPS

On choosing a photo:

1. Photos featuring the person’s most typical appearance will give you more resemblance

2. Properly focused shots with an image not too small are the best, BUT a good portrait can be done from an old, damaged, black&white, not in focus or small photo as well

3. For a single portrait a group photo is OK, simply specify the person whose portrait you wish to be painted.

On choosing medium and size:

  • Oil paintings are extremely versatile and will give you antique, "serious" look
  • Watercolours are full of light and look very subtle; framed under glass, they will live long
  • Colour drawings are exact and expressive; given special treatment by the artist and framed under glass, they are very fade resistant
  • Large paintings look better in spacious interiors, while smaller rooms require smaller scale artworks
  • Smaller size watercolours or drawings look excellent framed in larger frames with use of mats cut out of white/coloured cardboard.
