Abstract:
A coastal thunderstorm near Sydney, Australia, created an outflow
gravity current that propagated for at least 45 km over the ocean. The outflow
entrained air from a bushfire, making it visible. Thunderstorm-generated
gravity currents are not always visible and the present data supports the
observation that large gravity currents are known to occur in this area.
