Why choose Yandell,
aren’t all kinders the same?
As
parents, we know how important a good education is for our children’s futures.
The kind of start provided for a child will have a great effect on his/her
attitude towards schooling for years to come. Experts around the world are
expressing their concerns over the negative effects of “hot-housing” or rushing
children to learn at a greater and greater rate. There has been so much
emphasis on the development of children’s academic skills that other areas of development
have been forgotten. Studies are now showing social and emotional skills to be
of the most importance to success in school and in life.
Yandell
Kindergarten is offering parents and their children a real choice in line with
the latest findings of the National Association for the Education of Young
Children and other expert studies in America and Australia. The program at
Yandell is based on:
- Child Choice: teachers attend to the interests and
needs of each child and provide opportunities to pursue these. Numerous
experiences are planned and set up each day and children are free to
choose which they would like to explore or experience. They are allowed
all the time they need to explore these and are encouraged to make
decisions within their learning experiences.
- Emphasis on social/emotional
development: a
child’s ability to get along with others and their confidence in
themselves will affect all parts of their life now and in the future. More
than just “caring and sharing”, your child will learn: to approach
children positively to join in, to accept disappointment, negotiate with
others, to ask for help and to identify and deal with their emotions.
- Teacher guidance rather than
direction: the way
the kinder is et up means that the children do not need the teacher
constantly telling them what to do and how to do it. Teachers can then
focus on guiding behaviour, questioning for development of problem solving
skills, and encouraging children’s efforts. This means children develop
creativity, independence, and learn “how to learn”.
