First of all, we agree that Young Bucks is a terribly sassy and cheesy name; it's meant to be tongue-in-cheek and should not be taken too seriously.

Young Bucks is certainly attention grabbing and it has proved to be an effective advertising tool in attracting newcomers to the group in the past two years despite the occasional school-boy chuckle that the name may invite.

Young Bucks started in Dandenong on 9th July 1998 to provide 18-30 year old gay or bi guys living in the southeastern suburbs with a forum for meeting other gay or bi guys outside the scene, as most people know it. It is an ongoing group that is distinct from Young and Gay, Momentum and other similar groups that have a set time frame of six to eight weeks. In May 1999, the group moved to the Bentleigh area to make it easier for all Melbournians to reach us.

Invariably, guys join Young Bucks to make new friendships (and sometimes, to look for Mr. Right). To facilitate this, the group offers fortnightly discussion evenings to encourage us all to break the ice with each other.

Members also host regular social outings (dinners, parties and even weekends away) that serve to foster friendships within the group and motivate everyone to get out and about where they're more likely to meet more new people.
