As part of our discussion evenings, Young
Bucks offers support and education for those coming to terms with their
sexuality. These sessions often help prepare people to deal with difficult
personal issues that they may not have considered before coming out. However,
on the most part, meeting discussions cater for everyone. Some topics are
deadly serious whereas many are light-hearted and often very entertaining.
We talk about relationships (with
partners, family, friends, work colleagues and casual acquaintances), life
ambitions (career, personal and spiritual) and general up-to-date information
about gay lifestyles (STDs, adoption, beats, homophobia, etc). With there
being so few gay role models in many of our lives, these discussions help us
explore and define the ways in which we lead our lives.
Young Bucks also offers a total
confidential counselling and medical referral service for its members too.
Our convenor is a member of the Australian Counsellors Association and has
contact with professional private counsellors in the southeastern suburbs. He
is also able to arrange appointments (bulk-billed) with a gay-friendly doctor
in a private clinic.
