SPACE MARINE GALLERY

One of the things you got in the original Epic40k boxed set was plastic Space Marines. Because many other people already had Space Marine Armies I didn't do anything with them for a while, but eventually I got around to giving them a quick paint job, and bought a few pewter models to expand the numbers a little. I chose to paint them up as the 1st founded Space Marine Chapter - Dark Angels, mainly because they are a dark green colour, which drybrushes easily over black and you don't have to be too careful with it... Although I originally painted almost the entire army a very boring green colour, I have added bits of detail here and there over the years, just to give 'humanities finest' a bit more character.

I am unlikely to add much to this force because the Dark Angels green colour GW sells now is different to the one I used when I started painting the marines, and I hate having to mix up paint to try and get the right shade. However if anyone out there in internet land has spare Citadel Dark Angels Green paint in the old fliptop pots, I'd like to purchase or swap for it! You can e-mail me: at markconz@yahoo.com.au

The Terminator Detachment. Each Chapter of Space Marines has 10 companies, each of 100 marines. The first company of each chapter is an ultra-elite company issued with exo-armour terminator suits. The Dark Angels first company has the title 'Deathwing', and their terminator suits are a bone white colour, for tradition or some other reason which I can't quite recall right now... I do recall painting them though, compared to the rest of the marines they took a while.
Terminators are the toughest infantry in the Epic40k game, able to keep on fighting where other elite troops would fail. The Captain and Librarian command sections are equipped with jump packs to add tactical flexibility to the detachment. Note that for this Librarian (and in fact all other Librarians in the force), I have used a sergeant model converted to hold a staff, rather than the proper Librarian figure which I think looks too big next to the other marine miniatures. Both the Captain and Librarian models have also been given jump-packs cut off a normal assault trooper.

Here is the Assault Detachment. 4 Squads and a Captain and Librarian section, all equipped with jump-packs.

Here is one of two Tactical Detachments in the force. 2 Tactical Squads, 2 Devastator Squads, and a Captain and Librarian section, all mounted in Rhino APC's. I often add two Scout Squads to these Tactical Detachments as well.
The Whirlwind Artillery in the back row are also part of this detachment, but I often use them as a detachment by themselves for greater tactical flexibility. Two are painted with white missile tips to denote that they are Flak Missile equipped (anti-aircraft), rather than Barrage Missile equipped (ground attack).

Scouts and Dreadnoughts. I sometimes use these 8 units as a detachment, but usually the Scouts go into the Tactical Detachments, and the Dreadnoughts are attached to the Assault or Terminator Detachments, or are not used.

Here is the first of three armour detachments. 6 Landraiders MK V and 2 Predators MK III. Landraiders are one of the most powerful tanks in the game, but also one of the most expensive in points terms. Landraiders can also transport 2 infantry units each which can be useful.

Two of the armour detachments use the old MK IV Landraiders instead of MK V's. This is one of them.

Company 4 (IIRC) of the Dark Angels is the Ravenwing - a reconnaissance company. Here is the first detachment from this company. 8 Bike Squads, and a Captain and Librarian Section also on Bikes.

Here is the second Ravenwing detachment, 8 Landspeeders.

The Supreme Commander Detachment. An Inquisitor Lord riding in a Landspeeder, with 3 more Landspeeders as an escort.

A Thunderhawk Gunship Flight. These are well armed and armoured transports. Useful mainly for attacking ground targets.
