President’s Report

Well there’s been a bit going on lately with the car trial in Invercargill.  Not a big turnout but a nice day, a lot of un and a good BBQ.  Thanks Mike.  Also the Cromwell and into Wanaka run.  It appears most people enjoyed themselves from what I hear, (as my car was ready to go – but I got tied up …WORKING!.)  Never mind.

We also made $300 for being doormen and women at the Stock Car Ball.  Thanks to Maggie and Ian Mackie, Dave Faiva and Neville Murchland.  We are going to put that into the convention account for a bit of cashflow just to help things get started.  Convention meetings have been going well with a lot of planning in place. .

With the flat at this stage we have contracted the District Council’s work scheme to tidy the section, spray it, remove the rubbish and gravel it – which will cost approx $1000.  Dennis is getting some wallpaper and paint arranged for the flat.

We have acquired a lot of MK III parts from Mike at from Kaitangata.  Many thanks.  Dave Davis went up with his truck and with a salvage trailer – which he brought back full – after a few problems en route.  Thanks Dave.

This raises the importance of a ‘Working Bee’ early in the New Year for the parts shed, as we have stuff stacked everywhere and nowhere to put it.  However I will ring around early in January so we can get this sorted.   Adrian

Treasurer’s Report

The club funds are looking healthy.  We have a couple of expenses coming up, one of which is for $1001 to clear, spray and gravel the club section.  This has become a fairly major job because the spray that we used during a working bee a few months ago did not work.  The weeds and grass that were cut down and sprayed have now become worse than when we started, so it’s time to get the experts in.

We have contracted the Southland District council work scheme group to undertake this work for us.  They have the manpower, the equipment and the expertise to dot this properly and they will gravel the whole back section when they finish.  We can then concentrate our efforts on the parts sheds which are still in need of a real big sort out.  Sometime next year we will have to look into painting the outside of the flats because if we do not do this job next year, it will become a major.  At this time it is just a clean and paint.  Dennis

Club Captain’s Report

Well this years Christmas party seemed to go alright once again and I hope that all those sore headed dudes had brightened up a bit by Monday or Tuesday. (I know it took me a couple of days – thank you Dave Davis!!)

A great turnout of 30 odd people make it all worth while and an excellent effort from the Southland crew.  Obviously still wanting to get out and do something each month.  A big thanks to Goose and June for the great venue in Cromwell and everyone who helped with the food and barbeque – especially on Sunday.

As I mentioned in the last flyer, the big Kingston weekend will be our next outing and with having approximately 14 new members join us in the last 12 month, it would be fantastic to see 20plus Z Cars at Kingston this year.

More info on this outing will follow soon.  We hope you all have a Merry Xmas and safe New Year.

CAR TRIAL AND GRASSKHANA

Mike set us off in a late, but orderly fashion from the Feldwick Gates, but we soon came unstuck, -- actually by the time we got to Tweed St.   Some of us managed to figure out where the course designer screwed up, and some of us didn’t, and sought to pick up points on acquiring the mandatory pine cone, toi toi stick, newspaper etc.  The course took us out to Otatara, which proved to be the undoing of many who were not familiar with the area.  Had Katy and I continued we would have ended up in the river.

The grasskhana followed, which was just hilarious.  The task, was to negotiate the course, blindfolded, with the dubious assistance of a navigator!  It’s bad enough that your best bucket gets commandeered for the golf ball drop, but worse when your navigator directs you to run over it!!!  A great barbeque followed and awards - awarded.  Big thanks to Mike and Dennis for putting it all together, and congratulations to Dave Faiva and Diane Williams on their success.     Glenda

Future Outings Update

The Annual migration to Kingston is to be held on the weekend of 9th- 10th February 2002.  Members attending are to take responsibility for booking their own accommodation.  Cabins are available at the camping ground.

The meeting place will be the lakefront a t1.30pm if it is fine, and the local pub if the weather is wet.

The plan will, as usual, be flexible but will involve boating, sunbathing, fishing, swimming etc.  The annual Kingston Golf Classic will tee off at 4pm and a barbeque tea will follow.

Following an evening of music, dancing, imbibing etc. we will be adjourning for brunch on Sunday morning with a meeting of those capable of participating.  This has been a much enjoyed event in the past.  See you there.

Outings Report

XMAS PARTY 2001 ZED STYLE

Hi  Zed people,  As usual our Xmas party was full of a variety of happenings.  It was nice to meet new people and catch up with others.  Firs up I’d like to thank Goose and Juice for having us at their place, it was great and much appreciated.

We all sat down to a great spread, as usual the salad selection and meats were varied and scrumptious.  Then in came Santa, (wearing a red skirt?) with a sack of goodies and gifts were received by one and all… with a variety of reactions and exclamation… with Merv exclaiming upon opening his gift “this is me new wetsuit!!”

We then got down to some serious drinking, dancing , singing , talking and generally having a good time.  Wendy and I sang the Beatles – (we did SUPER well too!!!)  while we had some drummers and guitarists strumming their stuff.  A few of us ‘die-hards’ danced and even non-dancers got up and joined in (good on you Mike).

Then on the stroke of midnight…there was a flash as MERV showed off his Xmas pressie (his wetsuit), “Man that guy can move!!”  (Good on you Merv.  Noticed the other person DIDN’T strut their stuff!!”)

Then at some hour the motor-campers moved out in convoy.  That was along long walk! (made one thirsty though).  I’d like to take this opportunity to ‘heartily’ thank all the chilly bin carriers ‘great job done’.  Than we all parked up (well most of us) and quietly enjoyed a smooth whisky…or two…or more!!!

All in all I think a good time was had by one and all.

Cheers Angie
